2010 NFL Season – Week 16 Results

2010 NFL Season – Week 16 Results
Those jerks from the ’72 Dolphins popped open their champagne bottles as the last undefeated team went down this week. The Indianapolis Colts decided to pull their starters and got rolled by the Jets.
My dream of two undefeated teams in the Super Bowl was already in ashes, so I didn’t really care as much that the Colts’ win streak ended. I just wanted somebody else to do it so I can stop hearing about how great that Dolphins team was.
Supposedly, Mercury Morris is disappointed that the Colts didn’t go for the perfect season. But I think he was probably happy about it.
The Saints dropped another game. They lost to the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. Woe is the thoughts of the Saints’ organization this December. They get another shot to get the train back on the tracks again in Week 17 before going into the bye.
Even though they lost, the Saints win the first seed by default after the Vikings lost to the woeful Chicago Bears on Monday night.
The Bears put together a 16 -0 lead going into the half, and naturally gave it all back. They managed to win in overtime and should be celebrated as such. But the defense rolling over in the second half, after a great start to the game should not be overlooked. There is talent and determination on this team. It just doesn’t present itself for four quarters.
That has to come back to the coaching. Speaking of which, there were more Lovie Smith game management (or mismanagement) but I won’t go into it.
Suffice it to say, there will be some coaching changes in Chicago after the season ends this Sunday. I think that Lovie Smith will be back, but there will be a lot of new faces blowing whistles on the sidelines in Spring.
The reigning Super Bowl Champions are still in the mix for a playoff spot but they need a lot of help. The first thing they had to do in Week 16 was beat the Baltimore Ravens. They did it. Now they need a lot of help to get into the Wild Card round.
I don’t think it is going to happen.

2010 NLF Season - Week 16 Picks
I always start getting a little depressed around this time of year. It doesn’t have anything to do with the holidays. It’s just the bitter realization that football is coming to a close and pretty soon it will be the cold, dark days of deepest winter and early spring where there is nothing to comfort me other than the occasional news regarding free agency, the draft, and organized team activities.
Woeful.
But it’s not over yet. So, rejoice…
There are still a lot of teams struggling to make the playoffs, and even the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are not technically out of it yet despite a six game losing streak.
Unfortunately, even if they lose the next two games, it looks like the San Diego Chargers will be the second seed in the AFC. Which brings me to…
San Diego at Tennessee:
I’m taking Tennessee for the win in this game. I know that the Chargers don’t lose in December, and that thought really makes me mad since I really don’t like the Chargers but I’m taking the Titans anyways.
They’re at home, and playing for a Wild Card spot. I figure they have to pull this one out. Chris Johnson has a lot of yards left to gain in his two remaining games and this is a great place to start against the Chargers’ 21st ranked rush defense.
Unfortunately, Tennessee has the 31st ranked pass defense, and that’s what the Chargers do.
But I’m taking the Titans anyway. Screw you, Rivers.
Kansas City at Cincinnati:
It was a tough loss last week for the Bengals in San Diego. They have to keep playing hard their final two games in order to keep any kind of momentum going into the playoffs.
The Bengals should be able to win this game outright.
Baltimore at Pittsburgh:
The Steelers aren’t out of the race yet, even though it seems they did their best to try and eliminate themselves with a six game losing streak.
They need to beat the Ravens at home, and they will.
NY Jets at Indianapolis:
The Colts are so close to achieving a perfect regular season. I figure they will have to go for it. That means bad news for the New York Jets.
Minnesota at Chicago:
The final Monday night game of the season is going to be a stinker. The Vikings travel to Chicago and look to keep the second seed in the NFC. Philadelphia is right behind them, so a loss in Chicago (unlikely) and a Phillie win (likely) would put the Eagles into the second seed.
Nothing would make me happier than that. It would be a helluva Christmas present.
The only thing going in the Bears’ favor right now is going to be the weather. The Bears need to capitalize on this and beat the hell out of Peterson and Favre.
Of course, that is also taking into consideration the fact that the anemic Bears’ offense would miraculously manage to become a scoring offense.
That would be a helluva Christmas present, too.
I would love for the Vikings to lose the second seed to the Philadelphia Eagles and, if they made it through the first round, watch as they have to play outdoors at the Eagles in a divisional round.
Bye, bye, Favre. Bye, bye, Vikings.
Go Bears, go.
If you do one thing right this season, beat the hell out of the Vikings on national television. Send Favre to the retirement village with a busted clavicle and a lump on his head the size of his ego.

2010 NFL Season - Week 15 Results
My dream for a Super Bowl featuring two unbeaten teams went crashing down around my ears on Saturday night as the Dallas Cowboys beat the New Orleans Saints. Tough one to lose: at home and it helps keep the Cowboys playoff hopes alive.
Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts won their Thursday night game, so we still have one unbeaten team left in the NFL this season but it really isn’t the same thing.
The Chicago Bears got pummeled by the Baltimore Ravens. Once again, the mighty Bears’ defense has made a mediocre quarterback appear exceptional as Joe Flacco had the best professional game of his short career as he threw four touchdowns and no interceptions.
I won’t even go into how badly the Bears’ offense played. I just can’t do it.
New England scraped together another division win, and just as important, Miami and the Jets lost. That helps.
Cincinnati put together a good game against the San Diego Chargers but couldn’t hold on for the win in overtime. Best of luck to the Bengals with their emotional loss in San Diego, and in the locker room.
Minnesota is reeling right now after a loss to the lowly Carolina Panthers. Signs of friction between the QB and the head coach? Sweet.

2010 NFL Season – Week 15 Picks
Week 15 of the NFL Season is here. We still have two undefeated teams, with one of them playing tonight on the NFL Network.
Indianapolis at Jacksonville:
The Colts have a chance to remain unbeaten but will be resting many of their starters. The question is: How long will the Colts play their personnel with nothing to win and everything to lose?
Dallas at New Orleans:
A Saturday game?
Sweet.
I have to take the Saints to win this win against the continuously bungling December Cowboys. The Saints still have something to play for besides a perfect season: Home Field Advantage.
New England at Buffalo:
The Patriots can’t win any road games (in North America) this year. They need to change that this Sunday and trounce the Bills.
Chicago at Baltimore:
Really? Another loss for Chicago?
This sucks.
The Ravens are going to ram the ball down the Bears throats with Ray Rice and Le’Ron McClain. Then, when the Bears defense is reeling, they will throw Willis McGahee into the fray.

2010 NFL Season – Week 14 Results
The NFL season closes out Week 14 with the two undefeated teams remaining undefeated. New Orleans and the Indianapolis Colts move one step closer to giving what could be one of the greatest Super Bowls ever: Two undefeated teams vying for the championship.
That would be something, wouldn’t it?
Pittsburgh is something else, entirely.
The Browns! You lost to the Cleveland Browns! If that isn’t enough to make you start puking up Roethlis-burgers from Peppi’s, then you should go have another hoagie while you watch the game again.
New England squeeked out a win at home against the Carolina Panthers and now the Randy Moss stories are being blasted across the media. Hopefully all of this nonsense gets worked out quickly and the Patriots get their game going again. They have a very tentative hold on the AFC East right now with Miami and the Jets breathing down their necks. And Miami has a better division record.
The topsy-turvy world of the NFL continued this week with Minnesota getting a decisive win against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Arizona Cardinals fell apart on Monday Night Football after dismantling the Vikings last Sunday night.
What the hell? Where is the consistency in the NFL?
Well, besides the two undefeated teams.
Oh, yeah. Chicago lost again. That’s a model of consistency.
The fans and the media are out for blood in Chicago, but I don’t see anything happening until the end of the season.
